Not good, I'm afraid :(
Here's the overall summary from the log....

I've highlighted (hopefully) the main problem areas remaining -
That leaves us with 49 registry errors that we know of - and probably more that we can't see with this tool.
They mostly appear to relate to the SP1 file versions - which could imply either a failed SP1 install, or corruption on the initial install of Windows.
I recommend a repair install, which should fix all the OS problems - but before that, please tell us whether this is a Full Retail license, or an Upgrade - and if an Upgrade, is it one done with a disk, or an Anytime Upgrade?

On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0x800700C1' to display the error text.
Error: 0x800700C1Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.
SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
run another MGADiag report and post the results.
Copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log file to the desktop, then compress the copy, and upload it to your OneDrive, or other favoured fileshare site, and post a link

Thanks for your assistance and advice....and the simple to follow instructions for a total novice.
Note: I couldn't get the check disk to run normally (i.e. as you suggested) as I got the following error. "Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process" so I ran it from the accessories option which seemed to work the same. The error message I received from SFC/SCANNOW was; "Verification 67% complete. Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them".
I will try and post the CBS.log shortly (no instructions, so may take me a while to figure out how to do this).
Here is the new MGADiag report;

Let's see what we can do about that...
Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)
Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file
Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your OneDrive Public folder so I can take a look - post a link in your reply.

Sorry - I don't know the answer to your question.
The version of Windows was originally installed from a disk and since then any updates have been done via download. Does that help? (I don't have a copy of the disk)
Thursday, March 27, 2014 1:50 PM -
You'll need your full product Key before attempting a repair install - you can get that by using Belarc Advisor, from www.belarc.com
Once you have that to hand....
Download the SP1 Refresh for your language and edition from the links on these pages...
Heidoc -
Microsoft DR Download linksThe links are for downloads from the Digital River servers run for MS, so are about as safe as
you can get :)Once you have it downloaded, you then need to burn the DVD from it - use either the Windows Disk Image Burner, or (better still) your favourite burning application at the slowest speed possible.
Note that you do NOT 'drag and drop' the file to the disk, you must use the 'burn an image' option from your app - or you'll end up with a useless coaster :)
Once you have the disk burnt, check that it boots the (or any other) system OK - but do NOT start the repair from there - you must start the repair from within a normal Windows boot.
Follow the instructions in this tutorial - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
- and they should help you get through it (it's not as difficult as it looks!)
Always ask questions first if you're unsure - either here, or (preferably in sevenforums (tell them I sent you if you like).
Good luck with it!

Thanks - will give it a go.
Note: Is my product key not listed under my System details under Windows activation? Looks a bit like this 00123-456-7891098-76543?
Thursday, March 27, 2014 3:30 PM -
Ignore the last part - I've got the key now - looks a bit like this: AB1C2-3DEFG-4H56I-J78KL-MNOP9 - correct?Thursday, March 27, 2014 3:52 PM
-
A thought - if I could get my hands on the original disk, I take it that would be a better solution?
Would I then just need to follow the instructions from sevenforums?
Thursday, March 27, 2014 4:06 PM -
The best solution is the download - as your original disk may not have SP1 embedded in it, and you need SP1 (one way or another) anyhow.
Your machine is of sufficient age that it may have been originally installed before Win7 SP1 was released - so an RTM disk would have been used, and this cannot work on a system such as yours which has been updated to SP1 (and beyond).
...and yes, the Product Key is 5 groups of 5 alpha-numeric characters - yours ends in QQBH2 (from your MGADiag report - it gives enough detail to know which key is in use but not enough to be able to duplicate it).
