New Backup Feature to External Drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was reading the beta release documentation and it mentioned a new feature which allowed for a backup of shared folders to an external hard drive connected to the Home Server. Does the Power Pack 1 beta release also include an option to backup the system partition as well or will this be addressed in the future?

  • The documentation describes all the new features of Power Pack 1, so no, there isn't a way to back up the system partition. As for future features, Microsoft hasn't announced any.

  • The Windows Backup utility might not be the greatest of all but it is there in WHS. You must use Remote Desktop to access it. It is under Start/Accessories/SystemTools/Backup. When setting up the backup select drive C only (system drive, no data drive) and you can even backup to a WHS shared folder. Good to take a snapshop of your WHS OS once in a while, or if you really want it bad, you can schedule a task.
