Can't get Validation after my SP3 update RRS feed

  • Question

  • Two weeks ago I got windows technician help to install SP3. Yay!

Now I get the "You may be a victim, This copy of Windows didi not pass Genuine Windows validation" message bottom right of screen.

My software if fine, I never had this problem before.

I try to run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic from the following address

    http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/diag/RunDiags.aspx?displayLang=en

I get the window saying I am configured correctly to run the Windows validation. I push that button and get a window saying:

"The version of Windows you are running is no longer available for purchase.

Check to see if your PC can run Windows 7..."

And basically it looks like all they're tying to do is sell me MS 7, which I don't want for this system.

So I download and run the MGA Diagnostics tool from the following address

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

    Here are my results:

This installation is non-genuine because the Key in use is a Blocked Volume License Key – plastered all over the internet.
    Your Techie installed a counterfeit.

For what version and edition of Windows is your computer licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?

I see why you would say that, but it was a microsoft techie working direct from MS (Legacy service, I think it was called, since SP2 is no longer supported, but they'll still help with upgrading), I have the case number and everything. He ran the update remotely, because it wouldn't update for me from the windows update page. I don't see why a MS support tech would do that...?

Anyways, this station is stickied as a Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. When I started here it had SP2, so I upgraded to SP3 via MS.

In that case, there’s a good possibility that the MS techie shouldn’t have touched it in the first place :)

What you need to do is completely reformat and reinstall using the proper Windows MCE installation disks.
Try contacting Dell, to see if they still have any disks for your system - Request Dell Backup Discs
