Problem With Counterfeit After Update RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Folks,

As I turned my computer off this morning I allowed an automatic Microsoft Windows update and was instructed not to turn off or unplug my computer.  These updates usually last about 2 to 5 mins before my computer completely shuts off.  However, when I returned over an hour later it was still processing the update and the screen seemed to be repeating the same thing over and over. Assuming it was stalled,  I did expressly what I was told NOT to do and turned off the computer.  When I restarted it I was told that I had a conterfeit version of windows and that I should contact this website. ( I was able to get to my desktop but I was no longer connected to the internet so I'm writing from work.)  Obviously this "conterfeit" version of windows was created by interrupting an update. I was rushed to leave my home for work so I haven't done anything else but I expect to run into problems when I get home and restart my computer.  I read in another string that microsoft phone support may not be able to help me with this issue. And in another it mentions runing a diagnostic as instructed by the manufacturers' ( in this case DELL) handbook.  Could you tell me generally what my next step should be when I get home?  Can I continue to operate the computer on this other version until I validate?

  • Running the Daig tool is fairly simple. Please follow the steps below

    1. Download and install the WGA Diagnostic Tool: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

    2. After running the WGA Diagnostic Tool, click on the "Windows" tab and then click on "Copy to Clipboard".

    Thanks
