  • Question

  • Project professional writes "Unable to extrack data to initialise the server", or something like that. I can't say more exactly because I'm using russian version. What's the problem?

  • Try resetting the connection in project professional.  I would suggest copying the link from PWA and paste it into the connection string in project professional.

    Cheers

  • Hi,

If you are trying to connect to Project Server 2010, then you need a working PWA instance. What are the problems you are experiencing with PWA? These might be causing your connection issues?

  • No, something with permissions. I'll try again to fix it tomorrow.

  • Hi,

A quick search online revealed this post http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2009/05/21/sql-server-fix-error-provider-named-pipes-provider-error-40-could-not-open-a-connection-to-sql-server-microsoft-sql-server-error/

Other than enabling TCP/IP which you have stated above has occurred, there are a few more steps outlined in that post you may want to look into.

    Alex.

  • That's all not what needed. The problem was because I used russian sharepoint and project and english server 2008, Never do that.

And the same problem is in windows server 2003 with project and sharepoint 2007.

  • So, I have project web access.

But the problem with project professional is the same - see 1st post.

"Try resetting the connection in project professional.  I would suggest copying the link from PWA and paste it into the connection string in project professional."

    - you mean re-configure project professional? I did it.

    Sunday, December 19, 2010 3:34 PM
  • I've installed project professional on server, where project server is. It connects ok. On user's PC still nothing.

    Monday, December 20, 2010 8:21 AM
  • I've fixed it. Cause: adress of server was set as ip. I changed it to letters, and it's ok.
