A Couple of Suggestions For The New Forum RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys,

This could be due to my own stupidity, but here are two problems and suggested solutions

    1. Where can I change my email address? I can't find it in the "Edit Your Profile" page. Suggestion - put it somewhere idiot proof for people like me.

    2. I wish can see alerts for those questions or discussion comments that I participated in as soon as I login. Instead of going to my history of activities, clicking on the discussions and checking whether anyone has replied. This is for people who don't want to clutter their emails with alerts.

    Think about it.

    Thanks!

  • You can change the email address for alerts under "Quick Access" -> "My Settings". I have no idea why it's not on the profile page.

  • To Address your issues:

    1) Click on "Quick Access"->"My Profile".  You should be able to Edit your Profile once you're viewing it.

    2) Click on "Quick Access' -> "My Threads".  You should (now) be able to see the new threads, and who last replied, and determine if you need to chime in.

  • You should (now) be able to see the new threads,

No, you will NOT see new threads. You will only see threads you already contributed to.

The "my forums threads" summary has been abandoned (it wasn't broken, but they fixed it anyway...)

Martin - I was referring to threads with new content - from flameater's post: " for those questions or discussion comments that I participated in as soon as I login"...

"My Forums Threads" currently requires making a Bookmark in your browser of the forums you like. :(

That's so that it would fit in with all of the other UI elements for which no one has any idea why  things were done that way. Once a pattern of head-scratching incongruity is established, why bollix it up by having something in the UI that is familiar and actually makes sense, n'est-ce pas?

Yes, I know. The "My Threads" view has a (known) bug preventing it from displaying threads with unread content...

  • Thanks Meridian.

    So here's the summary

    1. To change your primary email, use Reed's link - https://account.live.com/summarypage.aspx

    2. You can also setup alternative profiles and link them all up together. To change their emails, again, start from Reed's link - https://account.live.com/summarypage.aspx

    3. To change the email used for receiving alerts from this forum, use Meridian's menu under "Quick Access" -> "My Settings" (This was not working a couple of days ago - cannot save - but the problem's gone now).

Thanks very much guys. Hope MSDN makes all these easier under a single place.
