Hi Noel-
I intended to call and try to get the incident number, but I noticed on my note of the key they gave me that two letters had been crossed out and another written above. I decided to play and find out if that was the problem all along. The one letter was a Z and it was rejected outright. The other letter went in but when I sent the key it came back with the message that the key could not be correct, so I went back and entered the other letter which meant the key entered was the same one that I had tried numerous times before, this time however it worked and the license is now authenticated. One of those mysteries of the universe. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

And what did the store say when you asked them about this?
There was a recent error on the Microsoft servers concerning this very thing and the advisory read:
Contact the Microsoft Store where you opened your account. Several users are reporting that the Microsoft Store had a problem this week causing this sort of non-genuine notice. They report that the Microsoft Store is resolving the issue. In the US call 866-530-6364.

Thanks for the info. I did call the number you listed and got help. After verifying the purchase they gave me a new activation number which I input and rebooted and verified that I had written down the correct numbers and input and rebooted and on and on at least 4 times, but still no luck. At this point I was disconnected (my bad or theirs, who knows) and figured I would wait a day and see if it was any better. Tried the new activation last night and still no go. Have meetings in the evening the next couple of days so I will ring them back over the weeked and see if we can get it resolved. Many thanks for your post. It certainly pointed me in the right direction.Thursday, September 22, 2011 12:28 PM

Here is the new MGADiag report. I did confirm that a new tokens.dat file was created. The reactivation was not successful.
Thanks again for your help.

SLIC DELL M08Darin will be able to research the actual Keys in use here when he gets back to the office on Monday – since this Key was apparently given you by MS Activation Support, there is no reason it should not be genuine (but stranger things have happened)If you have an incident number from your discussions with them, please post it so that he can chase it through the internal systems. He may advise simply that you contact support again, or (assuming you have an incident number, and gave the needed details), he may be able to get them to phone you.

Hi Noel-
I intended to call and try to get the incident number, but I noticed on my note of the key they gave me that two letters had been crossed out and another written above.
