Windows Media Player fails on some AVI files ... RRS feed

  • Question

My Windows x64 Vista fails to display the video on SOME AVI files.

It seems to be running WM 11 with the latest updates.

The behavior is consistent with my XP machines running WM 10.00 with the WM9Codec installed.

However, if I install k-lite klCodec on the XP, the problem seems to go away on the XP machine, not on the Vista, which I presume is because it is x64.

    Any advice ...?

I am just amazed that for such an important tool as Media Player, Microsoft is not offering its own super fantastic Codec and they have to be downloaded, doubtfully, from third party ... what am I not understanding?

    Thanks in advance.
