invalid activation

Question

I recently had to send my computer back to the manufacturer because the memory was defective. They fixed the issue and reloaded vista for me. I attempted to upgrade to vista ultimate, however, for some reason it would not let me. I had to reload home basic from the original disk and now my product key is invalid. By the way, my original product key does not match the one the diagnostic shows. Is there a way to activate without having to buy another product key?

A couple of points are worth noting here:-1) If you 'reloaded' windows using the Manufacturer's disk, then it will have used the OEM SLP Key from the manufacturer, rather than your Key - this is quite normal2) the key on the sticky label is your own personal COA SLP Key - for use if for some reason the manufacturer's key becomes invalid, such as updating the BIOS to one that doesn't have the appropriate codeThe key you have used for this install appears to be a Retail key - not the OEM or COA SLP Key for a manufacturer's install.Did you perhaps use a friend's disk to do the install? - or your own retail disk?If you did, then that's your problem. You need to reinstall from the Manufacturer's disks (or any OEM copy of Vista), and then Upgrade with your Ultimate.HTH
