Win7 reporting not genuine after PC part replacement. RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I recently had to replace my CPU (thus also mobo and ram) - Windows would not boot with the new hardware so I had to perform a fresh install on my primary SSD (retained a window.old backup). Everything was as normal for 4-6 weeks until a couple of days ago when I started seeing the notifications, black desktop etc. I bought my PC from overclockers.co.uk (extremely reputable) with Windows preinstalled 8 or so years ago but replaced my case around 3 years ago and so no longer have the windows authentication label (mistake). I still have the CD and used that to perform the install.

Here is my GWA diagnostic report

  • Your original OEM SLP license for Windows 7 is only valid with the original motherboard.  With a new motherboard, you will need to purchase a new Windows license.  You can purchase genuine Windows here
