Invalid License Code 0xC000022, even though previously validated RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been running Windows Vista Ultimate for over a year.  Recently I have received a message that my copy of windows is not genuine, with all of the activation popups.

I have tried multiple solutions found in forums and online support.  After, running the WGA diagnostics I noticed the product ID. in the report is not the same as what I have in computer properties.

Please help me correct this problem.

  • Hello RevJRJ,

The number found in the computer properties is the Product ID, not the Product Key.  As long as the Product Key (listed in the above Diagnostic Report) matches the product key Card that came with your copy of Vista, you are fine.

As for the issue, it appears Vista's Licensing Store may be corrupt of unreadable.  Please try the below steps to force Vista to recreate the Store file and repopulate the file with the proper licensing data.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc  (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS
