Hi Noel,
I have run the CHKDSK on all drives but I cant run HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\spldr it says it the system cannot find the path specified.
I am not sure what you mean by MGADiag report?
Sorry for not saying about the disk issue, I thought that this was not related as was not on the C drive

it is showing as activated in control panel and has a product ID - does this mean that I am fixed, as I have not had the window telling me to activate appear all day? if so thank you so much for your help. The other issue I now have is that it has got into a loop and will not perform the windows update as it keeps saying it needs to re-boot but when I do that it just tells me to do it again and again, is that something you can help me with?
Thank you

Interesting - I don't recall seeing this particular error before!
There appears to be a Tampered Service - SPPSVC - which may or may not be causing other errors.
Please open an
Elevated (Administrator) Command Prompt window and use the following
commands....net start sppsvc
sc qc sppsvc
sc queryex sppsvc
sc qprivs sppsvc
sc qsidtype sppsvc
sc sdshow sppsvc
Copy and paste the output to your reply
Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Hmmm - that looks normal enough to me (although I'm not at my normal machine at the moment so cant check it easily).
Let's check the file system and see if it's one of the related files that's actually the problem...
Open an Elevated Command Prompt and run the following command:
SFC /SCANNOW
once it's complete, if the summary shows unfixed errors, copy the following file to the desktop, compress the copy, and upload it to your favoured fileshare site and post a link in your reply
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Odd - I'd have expected something to show up in the scan, as the error type showing in the report is of the 'Access Denied' type- which occasionally means that a related file is missing.
Since sppsvc is working, then the trick is to find out what resource is being blocked - probably by faulty permissions.
Unfortunately, the SPPSVC service touches on a lot of files - and other services (not to mention registry entries!). This means that hunting down the error is likely to take a long time.
If we are lucky, something in the Event Viewer may give us a clue.
Please open Event Viewer
In the left pane, navigate to the Windows Logs
right-click on Applications and select 'Save all events as...' save as Apps.evtx
repeat for the System logs - save as Sys.evtx
Compress both files, and attach to your reply or upload to your favourite fileshare site
(preferably Dropbox or OneDrive/SkyDrive) and post a link in your reply

Ahah! - you didn't mention that you'd been having earlier problems with corruption!
You need to run CHKDSK over all your hard drives/partitions - at lest one has a bad block, and it may be this that's blocking access to the relevant files
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at the next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot)
repeat for any other drive letters.
Once complete, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\spldr

Hi Noel,
I have run the CHKDSK on all drives but I cant run HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\spldr it says it the system cannot find the path specified.
I am not sure what you mean by MGADiag report?
Sorry for not saying about the disk issue, I thought that this was not related as was not on the C drive
Chris

it is showing as activated in control panel and has a product ID - does this mean that I am fixed, as I have not had the window telling me to activate appear all day? if so thank you so much for your help. The other issue I now have is that it has got into a loop and will not perform the windows update as it keeps saying it needs to re-boot but when I do that it just tells me to do it again and again, is that something you can help me with?
Thank you

The report looks fine now - it seems that the problem was in the file-system itself rather than any particular file.
You may want to consider replacing your hard drive, as the bad sector errors may indicate a failing drive. Either way, make sure that you back up your data to external media as soon as possible! (and keepit backed up)
