Asked by:
CRM 4.0 Update rollup installation failure

Question
-
I am working on CRM 4.0 with UR7 installed.
I am trying to install another update but I can´t! I have tryed with UR15 and UR8 and not success.
The message is Action Microsoft.Crm.UpdateWrapper.MspInstallAction failed
This patch package could not be opened. Verify that that patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that tis is a valid Windows Installer patch package.
In the rollup installation log I found this:
Info| Could not find a part of the path 'C:\WINDOWS\$CrmUninstall\HotfixList.xml'.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Do you have a dash in your in your database file name. like "test-crm_mscrm"
It seems you might have to detach your org db, change the db name, and then reimport the org under a different name
I got this from here: http://community.dynamics.com/product/crm/f/117/p/28093/47043.aspx
just a warning. I have done this type of org re-name before. If you have any 3rd party crm extensions installed that rely on org name they will have an issue with this.

Hi Jamie, thanks for the reply.
The DB doesn´t have any dash, actually I have installed UR7 some time ago.
What I can see from the link you gave me is that in my case it is not a fresh installation, I have installed UR7.
I am trying to uninstall the UR7 and I am having the same problem.
Sebastian.

The db names always have an underscore, don't worry about that.

You won't be able to uninstall UR 7. Can you ensure you are using the correct Update Rollup. I've seen that error when someone attempts to install a 32 bit UR on a 64 bit machine or visa versa.
