Windows XP Repair and OEM Key

Question
-
I have what I think is an OEM version of windows XP pro. Recently I performed a repair with a Windows XP disc that did not come with the computer. Since then the repaired version will not activate. Is there any way to find the original OEM product key? When I did the repair I entered the Key from the CD I used for the repair.Monday, June 13, 2011 8:53 PM

Hello JDR77,
As Noel noted, your installation of XP Pro is showing as a not yet activated retail licensed installation. The product key reported in the mgadiag report is the one that service pack three installations will use by default if no valid product key is entered at the beginning of Setup. This procedure puts your XP installation on a 30 day "grace period" where it will function normally. After the 30 days is up, it will only start up and allow enough functionality to enter a product key or go online to purchase one (at this point since XP is out of production they will only offer you a way to buy Windows 7).
If the computer has a CoA for Windows, please tell us so we can advise you of some practical steps.
Your Office Professional Plus 2007 and Front Page 2003 installations are reporting as Volume Licensing products. If you are not associated with the organization that holds the proper licensing for the product key(s) used for these installations. then these products are nongenuine and should be uninstalled from the computer.

Hello JDR77,
You asked, "Is there any way to find the original OEM product key?"
Yup, it's printed on the Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) that came as a package with the genuine hologram systembuilder/OEM installation disc and a thin User Guide pamphelt with a blue cover. The CoA is supposed to be affixed the chassis or case (or underside, or in the battery compartment, if a laptop).
In order to receive the best support, we request all users initially download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Run" several times to download and start the Utility. When asked, click the "Continue" button. When the utility completes its run, click the "Copy" button, then come back here and paste the report into your post.
Also, please look on the computer for a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA). If there is a CoA, please tell us what version and edition of Windows is listed on the CoA, and if there is a manufacturer's name or "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" printed on the CoA. Do not post the product key printed on the CoA.

They Key installed here is one of the Default (Keyless Install) Keys - which cannot be activated. You need the COA Key to be able to make this install genuine (assuming it's for XP Pro) - you will have to use the Product Key Update Tool to change the Key.... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/genuine/product-key

OP does not have a problem related to WGA. His problem is related to product activation. He will be offered a solution by the PA support team when he calls.
