100% CPU usage after dumping. Suggestions? RRS feed

  • Question

HELP!  6 weeks ago we had our computer backed up, then dumped everything and reinstalled what we wanted, plus new security software.  Now, even though we have lots of memory (according to the tech who did this for us), the CPU usage hovers at 97 - 100% CONSTANTLY.

I am NOT very computer literate, so if anyone replies, please don't use acronyms or assume I can tell one program from the next.  I just want to have this run better.  We are running Windows XP, just have one computer.  Can you tell me what I might do to fix this?

    Thanks, Shawn

  • This is the Windows Home Server community forum; you should probably ask in a more appropriate location. You might want to start with Microsoft's Windows XP newsgroups. You should also take a look and see what process or processes are consuming all your CPU cycles; you say you installed new security software so I would probably start there.
