Backup Failed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have an external hard drive I'm using for the first time to try and back up my data.  When I initially plugged in the USB, One Care created a file on the exteral drive as the backup location but when it trys to backup the data.  I get a pop-up message that the backup failed.  1. Is there a location to view why it did not work.  2. I went out to the file to view if any data was backed up and get permission denied.  I'm the administrator of the P.C. and I don't have privs?   Please advise...

    Thanks

    Debbie

  • I think you may be able to see details of the failure by creating a support log - open OneCare, click on Change Settings, logging tab.

However, not having experienced a failure, I can't verify that the details would be presented there. However, support should be able to help identify the problem.

At what point do you encounter the failure message?

The backup destination folder is protected by OneCare. You would need to alter the permissions of the folder to allow yourself access.

  • I created the log file but it does not give me any helpful  information from what I can tell.

I encounter the failure when either the automtic backup attempts to kickoff.  It gives a backup failure error.

and when I try to back it up from the option to Start Backup.

From what I can tell, One Care cannot find the file it created.

I've tryed to change permissions on the folders that One Care created but I do not have permission.  Like I said, I'm the administrator.

Is there a number where I can actually speak to a person?
