Submitting a counterfeit sotware report - missing activeX? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I unwittingly purchased a counterfeit copy of Office 2007 Professional via Ebay, which was identified as such via Office Genuine Advantage., the applications now being labelled "not genuine" when run.
The seller as might be expected fails to respond to any emails. I submitted a counterfeit report to Microsft UK, but subsequently discovered via Google that an Office Genuine Advantage Kit exists, apparently available as either complimentary or at reduced price through a submission of the counterfeit report through the Microsoft US website.
I can complete the report online, but it will not submit, producing "Your machine is unable to run the components required to complete the ordering process for the Office Genuine Advantage Kit. It appears that the ActiveX control cannot run properly on your machine.."
    How do I proceed please?

  • Hello Baldrick1943,

Please run the online diagnostic at this site:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/default.aspx?

Let us know if the online dignostic identified any issues and if so, what did it recommend for solving those issues?

The Diagnostic identified that the Validation Self-help ActiceX control was not loaded.

I have now located/loaded the ActiveX control and successfully completed a Counterfeit report and obtained a report number, so I can submit the software to the Microsoft PID Centre in Dublin.

Many thanks for your help - it is much appreciated.

The Office 2007 Genuine Advantage Kit arrived via UPS today ... so from the airmail posting of the counterfeit software to Microsoft PID in Dublin on the 27th January to receiving the replacement today, 8th Feruary, took 8 and a bit working days!

Office has installed and validated with the supplied new product key without problems, although the updates seem to have taken ages ... a result of my slow broadband connection.

Once again my thanks to you for your help in resolving this situation, and an especial thanks to Microsoft for the Genuine Advantage Kit.

    Best regards
