Live Desktop Not Functioning RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi. I have recently discovered the wonder of Live Mesh. Great thought I, no more memory sticks or lost files (I bring all my school lessons in every day on a memory stick - needless to say I am always very nervous about losses and failures). I uploaded and synced files from home and checked they worked from my laptop (also at home). Once at school however it was a very different story. It took sveral attempts for me to even login to Live Mesh Desktop (installing the client on the school PCs was out of the question not least due to limited space). When I finally did get in, the folders took ages to load - like I was accessing on a dialup connection (actual speed 12MBit d/l 2MBit u/l). On two occasions I managed to get to a point where I could click to download files. In this case it would think for a few seconds before announcing the location was unavailable. Tried several times on a whole range of computers but most failed before the full desktop had loaded. Any workarounds here - thought I'd found the holy grail of cloud storage!

    Regards

    Alex

  • Is the school using a proxy server? It sure sounds like there's a routing issue as the Live Desktop is simply an https: connection. Remote Desktop can be blocked, but the Live Desktop should not be an issue.

Though not automatic, like Live Mesh, have you looked at Skydrive - http://skydrive.live.com for cloud storage?
