Windows XP activation loop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I build my own computers and recently had an issue with a recent one which required me to change motherboard, cpu, and video card. Upon installing the new components, I found that the Windows XP registry had been corrupt. So i proceeded to plug in a different hard drive as a master and recovered the registry using this method "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545". After recovering and being able to boot into the windows login screen, I try to login and XP tells me I must activate my windows. So when I say yes, it goes to a screen containing my normal desktop background, and stays there from 10 seconds to 10 minutes then goes back to my login screen without showing me the activation dialog. I don't have an internet connection on the computer with the problem and I plan to call microsoft for the activation. Any ideas on how I can make the dialog actually come up?
