Remote Desktop Connections Keeps Getting Disconnected RRS feed

  • Question

  • My remote desktop connection gets disconnected when my machine goes to sleep (as it should). Is there a way to prevent this from happening? I looked through the help pages for a solution and the one it gave did not work.

  • Hi Robert,

Please see this thread for more information on what happens with an inactive remote connection.  See here concerning waking a remote device.

Thank you for using Live Mesh!

  • The remote desktop connection will disconnect after a few minutes of inactivity even if the remote PC doesn't go to sleep. That's by design. You should be able to reconnect pretty quickly if disconnected, unless the remote PC goes to sleep, of course.

  • Thanks for the reply. I am trying to figure out how to wake my PC up when it goes to sleep. The help section gave instructions, but the interface elements I was instructed to click on do not exist.

  • Hi Robert - thanks for trying out Live Mesh! Can you post the link to the help topic you're talking about? I'm not sure which settings you're trying to change.

    Thanks,

  • If the PC goes into sleep state, Robert, you can't generally wake it up remotely. You will need to change the power settings to not have it go to sleep as quickly. If you are simply losing the connection due to inacitivity, the only way around that is to keep it active by poking the remote PC every once in a while. :-)
