Logging time before the planned date of a task in timesheet RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a situation and was hoping i could some help through you guys:

We assign tasks in Project server to resources and this is going well. However, we have some situations that need to be resolved such as:

a task planned to start on August 29 and finish September 10. However, a resource works on this task prior to its planned date i.e. Works on it August 20. We don't know how can we reflect that other than changing the task date to start on August 20 Which would be inconvenient considering the number of tasks we have assigned to people and its hard to keep track this way.

Ill leave this question open and once i get a good answer for it i will bug you guys with different scenarios.

    Appreciate your help!!

  • Basically, if you are using the Timesheet, the resource can insert the task and enter the update. They should also adjust remaining work if needed. The task schedule will adjust once this update is accepted.

If you are using Tasks, the task should appear in the Near Future or Distant Future groupings and can be updated there.

  • Thanks Treb,

Do you have a link for a tutorial that explains this process by any chance? This is a success factor to move our timesheet system to Project server and i really need to know the difference between all the functionality available for interting a new task/adding yourself to a task/adding a personal task and want to see how can i show this in a report.

    Thanks again for your help.

Once you have the data in system, You can query the project server reporting database & create reports. You may need to download the project 2010 SDK to get the Reporting database schema.

There are out of the box reports for Timesheets, assignments etc using Excel or OLAP.

    Hope that helps.
