  • Your PC is infected with a smitfraud trojan.
Spyware such as Smitfraud can invade your privacy, bombard you with pop-up windows, slow down your computer, and even make your computer crash.
Go here and use the smitfraud removal tool
    http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.p...

    Remove toolbar 7.1
Security Toolbar 7.1 is a toolbar associated with people who create trojans to purposely infect computers. Once this toolbar is installed if you try to open your homepage you may be directed to a rogue antispyware site such as Spy Heal or Dr Antispy it may say "System Security Status: Warning!!!" Also, infected user have an extra toolbar called Security toolbar 7.1 with two green two bars one saying "block adware" the other "remove spyware".

This will remove it. Its free for home use.

    http://www.precisesecurity.com/anti-spyw...

Or, you can do it this way.
    http://www.precisesecurity.com/adware-sp...

The standard tool to remove this pest is SmitfraudFix. The full removal procedure and the free removal tool is here:
    http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix...

Almost all "general purpose","all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as AVG, Norton, or Spybot S & D cannot remove it, as you have already found out.

  • Security Toolbar 7.1 is dangerous toolbar and comes from very dangerous trojan zlob. It hijack your homepage and
displays fake warning message to download the another fake spyware applications... If your computer is infected with
Security Toolbar 7.1 hijacker then its very dangerous for your computer. Also on the taskbar there will be a flashing yellow triangle that tells you have virus.

    Security Toolbar 7.1 Symptoms:-

User's homepage is changed to any unfamiliar websites which the average person has trouble removing. Warning messages such as "Virus  Alert", "Your Computer is Infected", "Security Alert" Trojan-Spy.win32@mx or Spyware.Cyberlog-X infections are
    displayed.

Security Toolbar 7.1 is dangerous toolbar and comes from very dangerous trojan zlob. It hijack your homepage and
displays fake warning message to download the another fake spyware applications... If your computer is infected with
Security Toolbar 7.1 hijacker then its very dangerous for your computer.

Below is how I got rid of this virus and all done free no need to buy any software. These software are trial versions.

    1. Download Spybot Search & Destory. Go to www.download.com and look up Spybot Search & Destory. Once downloaded load it to your computer and update the program.

    2. Download Ad-Aware 2007 by Lavasoft you can download it from www.download.com  Once downloaded load it to your computer and update the program.

    3. Open Spybot Search & Destory to scan your computer it will take 20 to 30 minutes scan. This will remove the Triangle Alert warning on the taskbar. Security Toolbar 7.1 will still be on your computer

    4. Open  Ad-Aware 2007 and do a full scan of your computer. It will take between 1 to 2 hours depending on how much files and programs you have on your computer. It took me 2hours 4 minutes to scan. Once this is completed Ad-Ware 2007 will let you know you have a trojan virus. Delete this virus the Security Toolbar 7.1 is removed from your computer.

Some people will still notice that their homepage is still hijacked where you are getting a blank page or a site you do not want everytime you open IE7 do this and set you homepage.

    1) Start Go to "Run", type regedit and hit OK
    2) Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\
    3) Right click in the right side panel and click on "New" and choose "DWORD
    value"
    4) After choosing "DWORD" type you have to name the file and name it RunOnceHasShown in the area provided, hit enter, then double click it and change the value from "0" to "1"
    5) Lastly, do the exact same thing but type RunOnceComplete instead and change it's
    value from "0" to "1".
    6) Open up IE7 and it should go to the homepage that you had previously instead of that annoying
blank page or other website you are not familar with.

    7) Now you can you should be able to change the homepage too any site you want.

This is how I fixed the security toolbar 7.1 on my computer. Hope this is helpful. Just to let you know most viruses and spyware are created by people who want you to by their virus & spyware program. Please look for all the free programs to help eliminate any future virus as it took me 6 days to fix this problem. If you want to buy a software look for virus and spyware programs at your local computer store then check online about the company and what other people online are saying about the product before buying. In my experince the brands most companies want to give you are McAfee and Norton and I do not like either as they miss some of the most common viruses on the market.

  • I had the same issue, I was able to remove it with a tool called "UnHackMe".  Try it, it's free for the first 30 days, although you might want to uninstall any other removal tool before you install this one, so that there's no conflict.

  • Open Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel. Uninstall the following software from there.

    1) IE security tools ( I don't remember the name of the other following entries, but there'll 3 to 4 in a row.. unistall them all)

    2) Windows security alert

For every program you unistall, it would pop up with a dialog box "computer restart needed".. Click yes there and proceed to unistall all these spywares...

  • Hi,

I also had the Security toolbar 7.1 and followed your instructions. It helped to eliminate the unwanted bar and to restore the internet homepage of my choice. I still have a problem that started when that toolbar was installed, namely I keep seeing a warning balloon on my taskbar with the following warning  "System Alert: Trojan-Spy.Win32@mx" preceded by a an icon that looks like a yellow triangle containing an exclamation mark. In the same baloon I am invited to download an official security software to solve the problem. I keep ignoring this warning but I would like to get rid of this pop-up, since I know that it must be a fake warning.   How can I stop this?

As in your message you metioned the IE tools (asking to remove them, which I did) is it normal that in the drop-down menu "Tools" of Internet explorer there is still the option "IE Anti-Spyware"?  How can I remove it if necessary?

Thank you very much for your help

    Hello My Friends,

I had the same issue on my computer.  Fortunately it didn't take me a week or two.  For me it took two days.  I am a computer professional and still preferred to go with the least effort, little cost approach.  I downloaded "SpyNoMore".  The reason I used this is because it correctly identified all annoying things that were installed on my computer.  It identified the security alert programs "that popup as a yellow triangle in the task bar" and the virus "Security Toolbar 7.1" that hijacks your homepages" and its associated files.  I had to purchase this product because all other products that I tried (spybot, aw-aware2007) didn't find the files that SpyNoMore has found.  I paid roughly $33 for SpyNoMore and got the key and removed all in a matter of minutes.  Besides if the spyware is not removed for any reason they guarantee your money back.  I am very happy that this thing is gone.  My homepage was set to its previous state.  No more of that annoying popups or the hijacked homepages.  Gone forever.

"Going forward Please donot accept and install any activeX components unless they are from a known publisher or a publisher that you trust"

Wanted to share this as I have seen quite a few posts and couldn't easily identify and work it on my own.

    Thanks

  • Yesterday,My symantec antivirus found a trojan horse and could not quarantine it
or clean it: access denied. little bubbles were coming out of the
lock area saying downalod DrAntispy and Tursted Protection Virus .
I could not open internet explorer because it
kept on saying critical system virus or something. . I
always get a Trojan Horse.Zlob found. And also i always get
Downloader.something. The path of these are always in "system volume
information( a jumble of numbers and letters. )" Is this a serious problem i
delete Torjan.Zlob and two days late it comes back in system volume
information. Also the downaloders are in system volume information named
A000736.exe or something close. Please help me.

  • The free downloadable program 'smitfraudfix' is quite useful.

On the computer infected with 'Security Toolbar 7.1', one has to take following steps:

    1. Download 'smitfraudfix' program from the internet.

    2. Restart your computer in safe Mode.

    3. Run the program 'smitfraudfix.cmd' in safe mode, with internet disconnected.

    4. Select option 2 for 'clean' from the list of options.

    5. Follow the instructions as appears....

    6.  Restart the computer after full operation is over, as indicated.

    7.  Congrats!  U've got rid of the dangerous spyware 'Security Toolbar 7.1'.

  • There seems to be some confusion as to what sites to "trust" that can tell you that they remove malicious programs or toolbars. That's what I ran into when I had to try and remove a "Security Toolbar 7.1" that appeared on my homepage. Sure enough, all the info if you search Google tells you that this is a malicious program designed to slow down or kill your computer, but where do you go to trust a site that will give you correct info on getting rid of the freakin' thing!

I opted to go with SmitfraudFix.exe and guess what.....IT WORKED! I first printed off the instructions and it took me about 10 minuted following them (while watching the Canucks vs Avalanche game) to get rid of it.

I don't think I've ever added to a forum like this before, but the reason that I am is that this really pissed me off having to deal with it, and I wanted to add my experience for everyone's benefit so that you hopefully find some info that you can trust. THIS IS WHAT I AM PREPARED TO DO IF YOU DO NOT TRUST THIS INFO...

Send me an e-mail to : coolnorth_2@hotmail.com  (I live in norther British Columbia, Canada) and I will respond to you via e-mail or phone if you want and I will assure you that this info won't just F#ck your computer up further!

Good luck to all....and if I ever found someone that wrote  a virus program just to screw up someone's everyday home PC...I would treat them like a child molester and cut something off that they would rather keep attached permanently to their body!

    Cheers!

    Hi,

The most important thing is to check if your antivirus and antispyware are override or not?

you can do that by searching the key antivirusoverride.

if the value is '1' make it ' 0 '.

Uninstall all the antivirus and anti spyware software.

Disable the the startup items throught registry.

Now install Spybot and Update it Immediately and Scan wioll remove any type of spyware's.

You can also try K9 Security or Bit Downloader.

Its the most powerfull antivirus and script blocking tool.

    Regards,

    Vishal

  • Using Spybot S&D, AdAware and PC Doctor (all free) is how I was able to get rid of Security Toolbar 7.1  Then, just to be safe, I updated my Symantec and ran a full scan in Safe Mode.

However I picked up this nasty little beast, there must have been some other little goodies it put in place to protect itself from being removed.  It was a bugger to get rid of and at least PC Doctor kept some the processes at bay which I ran scan after scan to clean things up.

I did try running the smitfraud removal tool but it was of little use - the tool kept complaining about missing some file and I could never successfully use it.

One of the last items I did was use HiJack This from TrendMicro.  This allowed me to analyze my registry and clean things up there, including fully resetting IE.

To whoever picks up this little nasty, don't panic, be patient.

  • Dear Sidharthmahajan,

Thank you so much for such a brilliantly simple solution!
Do you mind if I email you in the future, should I happen
to encounter any other problems? You're the Best!

I, too, downloaded the Smitfraud tool, and it put many
MORE viruses on my computer! I'm not sure if it had the
'Fix' after the 'Smitfraud' and before the '.exe' or not, but
I was too concerned about making another mistake to
try yet another 'tool' and take a chance! I send blessings
and goodwill to all hackers and haters who are filled with
darkness and anger, wanting only to harm others...may
the Universe fill your minds and hearts with Love & Peace.
    May you find the Light...

  • i have Ad-Aware 2008 and i found that even though when i do a system scan and it finds the Security Toolbar 7.1 virus it won't let me remove it, so i looked at the location of where the file was (for me it was c:\program files\applications) and there were 3 random files. when i tried to delete them it said that they were being used by another application so i open windows task manager and ended the processes under which the random files were called. there are 2 exe's looking files and one dll, once you end the processes you can then delete the folder. after i deleted the folder i scanned again and this time i still found the virus but there were only 2 registry file which Ad-Aware was able to delete and now when i scan it doesn't find anything anymore and the toolbar has gone from the internet explorer browser. not sure if the this has completly deleted the virus but it seems to be gone, hope this has helped

  • i used superantispyware. they appreciate donations, but if your like me and you cant donate now, its absolutely free. go to their website, download the free version, update and run. it took me about 10 minutes and the toolbar is gone. my computer runs better now than it did before it was infected. i hope this post will help.

  • IT WORKED !!!! Hallejujah!!! thanks so much, I was able to remove it completely from my computer....best of all...it was FREE!!!. Thanks again.

  • I got rid of it as easy as this!

    Use CCLEANER

    http://www.ccleaner.com/download
It's free! I've used this program for about 2 years, twice a day to keep my files free from this sort of ***. It works very well indeed.

Download it from that link and install it, open it, clic the tools tab. Look for 'IE Toolbar' in the 'Programs to remove list'. Highlight 'IE Toolbar', clic the 'run unistaller' button and watch it disappear.

NOTE. At the time I unistalled mine, I shut down the Internet Explorer. When I re-openned it after the procedure, the crappy toolbar had disappeared.

GOOD LUCK PEOPLE, HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU AS WELL AS IT DID FOR ME. I hate this kind of spyware!

  • right this is one very nasty virus that hides all over the place,Before you can remove using this method you need to know exactly when you were infected preferably time and date but date alone will do

1/ go to control panel and systems, turn off your systems restore it isnt any good now because its infected

2/ shut down pc and reboot in safe mode

3/ this is why you need to know when you were infected//,, when pc is in safe mode click on start and search, click all files and folders, including hidden folders, click on speicify date and enter the date you were infected,IE if it was nov 01 2008 enter this in both date boxes , at the top of this box type in .exe this is all you type nothing else just .exe and start the search going,

4/ the virus connects and starts itself because its a executable file, now comes the bit that will make anyone think twice, when the search has completed delete all the files found UNLESS you actually recognize the file and now what program its for DELETE it.

5/ this will stop the virus connecting to the net,and will take away the yellow warning triangle in the systems tray

    6/ reboot into normal mode

7/ you will see the toolbar still there DO NOT TRY AND DO ANYTHING WITH IT AT THIS POINT or all you have done will be a waste of time

8/ connect to the net and download the free version of ADAWARE and install, get all updates,When you have all the updates run a scan a full systems scan

9/ it MAY pick out the virus(toolbar) first time IT MAY not,you might have to run this 2--3 times each time deleting what it has found DO NOT QUARRENTINE ,delete

10/ when this has been done and the toolbar has gone with everything else the yellow warning triangle etc GO TO your favourites and it is in there as well listed as antivrus scan DO NOT CLICK ON IT TO OPEN right click and delete, then empty the recycle bin,

11/ go to control panel / systems and turn on the systems restore and create a restore point

12/  using your normal soft ware clean out any *** files,if you do not have soft ware for this then download the free version of a program called *** cleaner i think this program is excellent

13/ at this point your pc should be clean and functioning as it should do

14/ this is how i cleaned out mine , but be aware .exe files are important to the systems of your pc so i will take no responibilty if you crash your pc take your time and becarfull BEST OF LUCK

FINALLY do an adaware scan and a full systems scan with your normal antivrus program just to be safe

  • This somehow got onto my computer and was a pain in the arse, I am not particularly good with computers and found most of the info on this forum confusing / conflicting / useless!  I read all of these posts but was extremely suspicious of downloading anything else, ZoneAlarm was ineffective and was saying there was nothing wrong........  Eventually I found the SmitFraudFix thingy, and checked it out on Wikipedia as I didn't know if it was trustworthy, the info there was very helpful and after following it I eventually rid my computer of this annoying toolbar / piece of s**t.

  • Hi

Thanx for posting this, it has helped slightly although i am still experiencing some problem. I have followed all your instrustruction and the toolbar and pop up alert on the taskbar has gone, but when i try to access any websites from explorer the page attempts to redirect to another random page, fails, and then shows a message that "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". For this reason i am uncertain whether the virus has been completely removed. I have tried accessing the internet through another program that is work related and the connection has been fine, so the problem is only with Internet Explorer. Is there any way i can regain access to explorer, keeping in mind that currently i am using another computer to write this msg as using IE on the infected computer is impossible at the moment?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

  •

This ones an annoying little bugger. I run into it every couple of years.  Including last night.   I keep notes on crashes and adware.  I found an old log about this one. "Unhackme" worked for me then, and worked this time too.  Its a free trial, although the free trial button is a little difficult to locate, but its there as of the date of this post.  Spyware Doctor, Adaware, Spybot Destroyer are not useful in my case. Before you buy something, or take hours on endless scans by spyware programs try "Unhackme."    Download, install, run, reboot, run again, reboot...gone!   2 minutes.

  • To all people out there with this problem,

We were trying to watch a movie today or should i say this morning and some how got the security toolbar 7.1 and a few trojans with it, we tried all day to remove this including, spybot, ad-ware, superantispyware, smitfruadfix, i ran all applications more then once and still had the damn tool bar there with annoying pop up in my applications bar on the bottom right sometimes with a triangle as well, i was ready up and found CCLEANER which is mentioned earlier on this thread and yes it worked.

CCLEANER WILL REMOVE THIS SECURITY TOOL BAR, I did as mentioned run alot of programmes before which found other stuff spyware and a couple of different trojans but hey it did take about 4 hours to fix but now this computer is like new, very fast and nothing bad on it, im keeping all products, spybot, ad-ware, and the others above but most of all ccleaner which can be downloaded from downloaad.com this product is good i must say.

I hope if anyone does have this problem it helps.

Also a big bad ugly crunch to all hackers! who cause people heart ache for nothing!

  • Thanks for this it worked for me. I was still left with the actual toolbar but I removed this in Manage Add Ons and all right as rain. Only thing I don't understand is that this solution was so simple and effective yet problem is not uncommon on the net all of the other solutions are quite complex, downloading sometimes 3 different anti-spyware programs etc. Am I missing something here ?

  • I'm not sure why all other solutions are so complex but they didnt work for me anyway, the only reason this way is simple is that i spent all day trying to get rid of the problem and the only way i found that got rid of everything to do with it was to run all thre programmes i did, one programme must disable the bug giving another programme chance to get rid of it, i only posted my comment as this was a pain and took me all day so i was just hoping to help others that may have had this problem, i glad i could help some people out there, if you need any other info just reply and i will help anywhere i can.

    Good look all

  • Security Toolbar 7.1 is a toolbar associated with people who create trojans to purposely infect computers. If you try to open your homepage once this toolbar is installed, you may be directed to fake security site. This site pushes bad programs such as antivirusgolden, malwareburn, Antispyware Sheild. In addition to that, ballon popups stating "System Security Status: Warning!!!" won't stop alerting you. Most commonly, infected user have an extra (hard to remove)toolbar called Security toolbar 7.1 with two green two bars one saying "block adware" and "remove spyware".

    This will remove it, free.
    SUPERAntiSpyware(recomended)
SUPERAntiSpyware will remove ALL the Spyware, NOT just the easy ones!
Easily remove over 100,000 pests such as SmitFraud, Vundo, WinFixer, SpyAxe, SpyFalcon, WinAntiVirus, AntiVermins and thousands more!....
