  how many exams for mcse and mcsa certifications?

  
  For the MCSA: 4 or 5 (depending on what route you take)
  1 x Client exam
  1 x Server exam
  1 x Network exam
  1 x elective (this may be one or two exams)

  For the MCSE: 7
  1 x Client Exam
  4 x Network exam (this includes the required server exam)
  1 x Design exam
  1 x Elective exam

  If you complete the MCSA, depending on what exams you taken, you may fulfil 3 or 4 of the required exams for the MCSE.
