CRM 2016 Database Mirroring RRS feed

  • Question

  • The CRM Implementation Guide no longer refers to database Mirroring, it recommends Availability Groups instead. However Availability Groups requires an Enterprise license for SQL Server 2014. Mirroring is supported in the Standard edition.

Does CRM 2016 support Mirroring of the CRM databases?

  • Anyone?

I am assuming Mirroring will work because it functions at the database level, independent of the CRM application.

  • Hi,

The IG haven't really been referring to mirroring but rather to clustering (active/passive, even though active/active have worked but was used as an active/passive if I understood things correctly. This may very well be the same thing...). I'm no database wiz so you are probably better at the SQL stuff. What I remember from the 2015 implementation was that the high availability option was support of active/passive clustering and always on (high availability groups). I suppose that what is supported depends on how CRM connects to the SQL implementation.

    Hope this was some help.

  • Thanks Rickard, I appreciate your response.

However I need this from the horses mouth, and I thought Microsoft monitors these forums.

Please Microsoft can you confirm if Dynamics CRM 2016 with SQL Server 2014 Mirroring (asynchronous) is supported.

  • I doubt you will get an answer from Microsoft on these forums, I haven't seen any official answer that I can remember. I think it's better to contact Microsoft directly.

    Good luck!

  • Hi-

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh699797(v=crm.6).aspx

Above document describes how to configure CRM 2011 and CRM 2013 with Database mirroring. However, the other version drop down doesn't have CRM 2015 or CRM 2016 options which is very well available for other docs applicable for these two version. I would translate this as no official support for SQL DB Mirroring with CRM 2015 and CRM 2016.

Just in case her is the CRM 2016 AlwaysOn configuration page - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj822357.aspx.

SQL Server has declared deprecation Database Mirroring https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189852.aspx.

    Hope this helps!
