Windows not genuine....

Question
-
I recently purchased and installed an SSD hardrive and migrated the data from the old C to the "new SSD" C (operating system and all installed programs to date). I made some minor changes to the bios and removed a non-working dvd rom also. I'm guessing that windows 7 thinks I installed it on a second machine and is now not playing nice with me.
I've tried all manner of suggested re-validation steps and nothing has so far worked.
Help please!
thanks.

I'm about out of ideas - I would suggest a repair install as the best way forward here.
You should be able to keep all data - but back up to external media first, just in case.

Licensing Data-->
C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs(1333, 5) (null): The data is invalid. Please first try recreating Licensing Store.
Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each
net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)
CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
net start sppsvc
slui.exe
After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case
Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

Thankyou Noel.
I followed your steps to completion and I was able to get to the final step where it allowed me to enter the product key. Verification of that key was still unsuccessful. Here is the latest MGADiag report.

OK, we'll have to see if we can correct the problem at a deeper level then.
Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt
REG QUERY HKCR\TypeLib\{565783C6-CB41-11D1-8B02-00600806D9B6} /S
DIR C:\Windows\regtlibv12.exe /S
Post the results
Open Notepad
copy and paste the following into the Notepad window, and save to the desktop as TEST.VBSSet objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\.\root\cimv2") Set colComputers = objWMIService.ExecQuery("Select * from Win32_ComputerSystem") wscript.echo "Test Passed"
now double-click on the new file - you should get a small popup window saying 'Test Passed'
If you get anything else, copy and paste the message to your reply.Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

Calrify please, in the above line there is a skype call hot button. How does one enter that into a command prompt?

I recommend that you quit Skype first - it's a contruct from your machine rather than anything else.

What program did you use to migrate the OS, programs, and data? Remember that the drive geometries of SSDs and HDDs are very different. Most of the free cloning programs cannot take this into account and just copy from one drive to the other. SSDs have a different offset and do not use sectors, tracks, clyinders, etc. This can result in poor performance and errors.

I used the transfer utility from Intel's website (Intel SSD) that I chose from a list that corresponded to the hard drive that I purchased. The exact program I don't know but could certainly find it if you think that may be the problem.

I'm not familiar with it but it should be OK if Intel recommended it for SSDs. The problem with the public domain programs is that they don't change the drive geometry and you get partition tables that are not right for SSDs.

I'm about out of ideas - I would suggest a repair install as the best way forward here.
You should be able to keep all data - but back up to external media first, just in case.

Okay, me too. Thanks for the help so far though. You suggest a repair install, but what about just a clean re-install? I don't have much to loose and all the data is on another drive on the machine.
What I'm afraid of is that I'll just end up back here again with the same "Windows is not genuine" message and the inability to authenticate and update. Because if Microsoft currently thinks that I've installed Windows 7 on a second machine why would things change with a repair or re-install? Just thoughts...

By the way Noel, what were you seeing in the diagnostic reports....IOW, what information were you looking for and why?Thursday, November 8, 2012 10:31 PM

C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs(1333, 5) (null): The data is invalid.is the basic problem indication - which tells is the line number in the slmgr script file which throws an error.
This area of the script queries the WMI data, as I understand it - so it's probably that which is corrupt.
Unfortunately, that's well outside my area of expertise.
There is no reason why you should be refused activation - if internet activation fails, simply use telephone activation and speak to an operator to sort out any problems.
