  • Hello Disgustedinmiami,

Your installation of XP Home on your Dell 2350 is showing as having "crypotgrpahic errors" and is also showing as having a dozen files where the digital signature is not matching up with the cryptographic database.

This condition could have been caused by several things such as a malware or virus attack, hardware malfunctions, or a glitch during installation of Windows Updates or Service Packs.

Please rerun the mgadiag utility that generated this report.  When the utility completes, click on the "Resolve" button and allow it to work.  The utility has the ability to resolve some of the cryptographic errors.  When completed, restart the computer and then run the utility once again to see if there has been improvement.

If the utility is unable to clear up the errors, your best option at that point would be to backup and offload any data that you don't want to lose, then use the Dell PC Restore utility to erase the user portion of the Hard Disk Drive (C:) and reimage it back to "out-of-the-box" condition.  To access Dell PC Restore, restart the computer.  Carefully observe the screen looking for the two-second interval when a blue bar is displayed at the top of the screen, right after you see the Dell logo and right before you see the Windows logo.  During this time, simultaneously press CTRL + F11 then release both.

Please visit http://support.dell.com to get more detailed instructions on how to use Dell PC Restore.

  • Good Morning Disgustedinmiami,

Do you have a Anti-Virus program that is up-to-date with all updates and signature files? If so, run a complete scan. Did it find anything?  Also go to http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm and run a complete scan using the OneCare Safety Scan for Windows Vista. Did it find anything? I noticed you have an OEM System Builder version of XP installed. Usually Dell uses the OEM SLP installation process. Do you still have the original Recovery media that came with your dell?

    Thank you,

    Stephen
