CRM 3 to CRM 2011 - arguments to migration crm 4.0 to crm 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I would like to upgrade my CRM 3 to CRM 2011.
I'm searching arguments to make this migration.

What are the main improvements of CRM 2011 relative CRM 3.0 ?

I thought argue about the Microsoft support:
I saw on internet the last rollup for CRM 3.0 was in april 2008.
I would like to know if we can still have support about this version by Microsoft  or if the support stopped ?
I also would like to know untill when CRM 4 will have rollup and support.

    Thank you in advance.

There are many enhancements in CRM 2011 since version 3.0. There are very noticeable changes even as compared to CRM 4.0.

There is a new JScript model. xRM framework has taken a center stage. CRM web services are WCF. CRM 2011 supports REST and LINQ. We have a very user friendly features called dialogs. The whole programming model in plugins and custom workflow activities is based on latest visual studio and dotnet framework. We have a whole way of buttons UI called Ribbon interface. CRM 2011 is more tightly integrated with latest office 2010 and SharePoint 2010. The way we create forms and lay fields is much more user friendly as compared to CRM 3.0. Microsoft is very aggressive and serious about 6 weekly hot fixes and half yearly major service updates for CRM 2011. CRM 2011 market share is rising like anything. CRM 2011 is now online (on cloud).

Well my advise would be to definitely migrate from CRM 3.0 to CRM 2011. You have the opportunity to bypass CRM 4.0 completely.

I hope this helps. If my response answered your question, please mark the response as an answer and also vote as helpful.

  • Just to add that to upgrade from CRM 3.0 to CRM 2011 you must upgrade to CRM 4.0 first. You can then upgrade to CRM 2011 or restore the CRM 4.0 database to a CRM 2011 deployment.
