  • Hello all,

I use Winmo and Activesync/WMDC since 2004. Most of the time it is stable, but when a problem pops up, it's a huge task to solve.

Since I use Windows Mobile 6, Vista 64 and Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1, I have had 4 big problems:

    - Truncated text : apparently it is not a bug , but a "feature".

    - Loss of automatic synchronization on USB : I forgot to write down the error code, fixed by re-installing WMDC.

    - Forced manual synchronizing : Support code: 0x80883001.

    - Sync cannot be completed, Error code : 0x8503001C.

For each of these problems , it was long and difficult to find a solution. For the problem with error code 0x8503001C, I had to hard reset my phone, which means I spent a lot of time looking for a fix, trying to avoid this extreme solution, and now I will spend a lot of time re-setting my phone like it was before. Valuable time in the evenings after work, that could be spent doing something else!

For the first problems, I was trying to call my ISP's support (SFR) and the phone's manufacturer's support (HTC), but for such issues, they don't have a clue!

So my only help could be the web: Google, this forum, etc. For each of these problems I noticed that a lot of people experienced the same problems as me and were also looking for solutions on the web, because just as me, they were dealing with these problems on their owns!

Something is missing here: Microsoft! I beleive MS is not doing enough:

    - Why is the last update for "Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 Driver for Windows Vista (64-bit)" 2 years old? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=4f68eb56-7825-43b2-ac89-2030ed98ed95

    - Why aren't there any knowledge base article about these error codes, explaining ways to fix them?

    - How can these Activesync errors have multiple causes and why do users fix them through multiple different solutions? Could it be possible to make these error codes more precise?

    Amen,

    Gz

  • Thanks for the feedback Gz. We are so sorry that you've experienced so many support and error codes. The team is working on clearer communications related to error codes.  In the meanwhile, Chris De Herrera's site:  http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/exchange_errors.php contains some helpful tips:
For error code 85030001, did you upgrade ActiveSync/WMDC on your PC/desktop computer? The team is also looking into your issues.

  • Gz - I just communicated with the team again about error code communications. I'm marking this thread as answered for our internal tracking purposes but anyone is welcome to still post and view additions or updates to these communications. Thanks again.
