WHY DOES TECHNET DEMAND A NEW SCREEN NAME?? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been in the Microsoft community for a while but didn't respond to any Technet queries till today. I signed in without a problem but then Technet demanded a new screen name. I was forced without option or explanation to make a change to my long used moniker that no one else has. WHY?

  • What was your old name? The name you have now, Flak88a, was just now created as a new user with no other history. If we know your old name we can search for it. You may be able to get the password changed and use it.

I would email fissues [at] microsoft [dot]. Provide the old and new user names. Unless the old account was banned, or is used by someone else, you should be able to get the password changed.

Edit: As this forum is for questions and discussions about the TechNet Wiki, I will move this question to the "Forum Issues" forum, which is more appropriate.

  • To add to Richard's reply; your forums profile is associated with a microsoft account so maybe you have more than one? Merging microsoft accounts is not possible but changing the account linked to profile might be possible but you'll need to dig up the details. This one may also help.

If you figure out another microsoft account is involved and lost password issue then you can use the links at bottom of this page to email or chat with someone about account recovery.
