Installation Errors on Windows 7

Question
-
I understand that Mesh is now supposed to work on Windows 7.
I've having trouble with the installer.
Fresh download of Mesh - version 0.9.3424.14
I already have it running fine under Vista
Clean Install of Windows 7 (not upgrade)
On the Windows 7 machine I am logged into Windows Live and can see my Mesh Folders
Firefox installed
AVG installed
The installer just quits with this error -
Installer encountered errors.
[800700FF] The extended attributes are inconsistent.
I've tried:
Letting the trouble shooter have a try
Disabling AVG
Rebooting
Run as Administrator
Always the same error
I would greatly appreciate any advice.
Best regards,

I to am getting errors, I have no AV program installed, just did a clean install, so far I have Office 07, VS2008, SQL 2005, and the lasted Live apps. My results are just like Huggs discribed.Saturday, January 17, 2009 11:15 PM

I'm having this problem too, its only started in the past day however. In this time i've only installed VS2008, which is also giving me lots of debugging errors with Media Centre and the TV guide.
Noticed that RyanLM mentioned VS2008 so wondering if this is involved?Sunday, January 18, 2009 5:43 AM -
I also get an error window "Windows installer has stopped working" Then "Installer encountered errors 800700FF The extended attributes are inconsistent." I chose to send the dump report to MS. Hopefully someone on the Win 7 team will figure it out quick. It seems it happens on other Live software too. It happens when I tried to install Live OneCare. I had a problem at first with the main Live package of messenger and stuff also but then it installed fine on a retry. OneCare and Mesh are causing installer to quit.

Decided I'd try to uninstall VS2008 and try again. The uninstaller won't even start, just gives me this error..."A problem has been encountered while loading the setup components. Canceling setup".
Everythings gone to peices now too. Just opening a window or windows update crashes explorer. Guess I might have to format and try again.
As for Live OneCare, I heard it deliberately been blocked due to it being discontinued.Sunday, January 18, 2009 7:53 AM -
Also running in to this. Interesting I just noticed that I also can't install some other software now, the latest Java Runtime, gets the same type of error.
It all seems to have gone downhill since I installed the latest Live apps yesterday, but I do also have Visual Studio Express 2008 installed on my machine.Sunday, January 18, 2009 9:00 AM -
Just formatted, Live Mesh installed first time on a totally clean system. I couldn't even uninstall VS2008 so im almost sure that ether that or one of its add-ons is to blame.
I'm still getting "Live Mesh is currently starting" message though, but never actually starts or prompts me to login. Out of curiosity, are the people having problems running x86 or x64 versions? I've only had the install problem on my x64 machine, but the "currently starting" error is happening on both.Sunday, January 18, 2009 11:21 AM -
Hmm, I'd prefer not to reinstall. But for what it's worth I have the x64 version.Sunday, January 18, 2009 11:27 AM

The error is related to Windows Update (at least it was in Vista, no reason to think it would have changed). Have you installed any other programs on the beta or is it on a clean install?
Can you run Windows Update without a hitch?

Thanks, not tried it personally becuase I did it on a new install. Does anybody have any pointers how to get past the "Live Mesh is currently starting" message? I Don't even get chance to login.
Had a look around but couldn't find any other threads with the same problem.Monday, January 19, 2009 11:18 AM -
Thanks Tripog,
I tried your method and it worked.
Here is a bit more info on the fix, it seems to apply to other installations in Windows 7 too:

I am getting the same installation error - Installation encountered errors. [80072EE2] The operation timed out.Tuesday, January 20, 2009 2:23 PM

That actually seems to be a different error - can you use normal windows update?Wednesday, January 21, 2009 4:38 AM

dstubb - since the error code and the actual error message is difefrent from the one discussed in this thread (as nachmore already mentioned) please submit your logs (see the announcement on the forum start page for procedures) and start a new thread for this. This will make it easier to follow.

I am having the same problem Code 800700FF when instaling the driver for my Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000. I navigated to the regedit location you mentioned. However, there is no value listed at that location.Tuesday, January 26, 2010 6:31 PM

I suggest contacting Logitech as you posted to a forum dedicated to Live Mesh - www.mesh.com
