MCC title shown next to the names that don't seem to qualify? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everybody,

I noticed two people showing MCC title which make very little sense to me and I suspect there may be some mistake awarding these people. Say, the person with only 4 answers was showing the award. Now I see the title near a person with last forum's activity more than a year ago.

This doesn't make much sense unless there is some mistake being made.

  • There are a few MCCs that haven't been removed, such as myself, althoutgh I was one of the last to be awarded the annual ones back in April.

On Naomi's point, I fully agree.  The old MCC's were awarded for contributions outside of Technet, which the newer terms appear to contradict.

It's kinda hard to take the award seriously in its current set-up I feel.  With or without, I'll still be contributing to the forums though.

  • There is a possibility of this title don't disappear because the people never logged in, after that?

  • HI Naomi !

Can you be nice enough to provide the link to his / her profile. May be there are old MCC's which haven't been removed yet. Related to the same bug.

    Thanks, Hasham Niaz

  • I was thinking that perhaps that title was from the old days, say, March 2012? I can not provide links as pressing 'Browse Forum Users' doesn't open a page for me.

The people I meant are 'RubSav' (if I remember her nick correctly) and 'Cool Mind' http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/profile/cool%20mind/?ws=usercard-mini

Got the 'Unexpected Error' again - re-trying.

  • HI Naomi !

Can you please go ahead and forward these to MCC committee for inquiry, they might have some reasoning behind it. As far as i know currently their Name doesn't appear in the following MCC Recipient's List.

    https://www.microsoftcommunitycontributor.com/current-recipients.aspx

This might be a bug due to which MCC doesn't appear with our Online Name.

Please let me know if this doesn’t work for you. Hope I have answered you correctly.

    Thanks, Hasham Niaz

  • I actually sent e-mail and that was the response:

Regarding your other question about who gets recognized, it gets a bit more complex, but I’ll try and explain it.  We have made some changes as to how we select those who receive the badge versus how individuals who were selected for being Microsoft Community Contributors under the award offering.  Previously, we chiefly looked at activity in the forums with some evaluation of the activity in other community areas such as wikis, blogs, etc.  Now, we are taking those other non-forum contributions and bringing them into more into focus.  This helps highlight the amazing contributions made not just in the limited question and answer area, but in the overall community.  We now evaluate a slew of contributions including (but not limited to): localizing content for other languages, answering questions in forums, contributing to wiki projects and more.   Will this change from quarter to quarter?  Most likely.  This is especially true considering the increasing amounts of visibility into what contributions are being made in other areas of the communities and changes within the communities that we recognize contributors in.

    --------------

On my yesterday night e-mail I didn't get an answer yet.

For Cool Mind I think it may be still the last wave of recipients before the program stopped. So, I can understand it. For RubSav it's harder to understand, but I guess it's the same situation.

  • BTW, Online Name is optional, so if the name is not in the list, it doesn't mean that the person was not awarded. If the name is in the list, it means the person was awarded and fill the required info to show their names online.

  • This is the profile for RubSay.  Very minimal contributions on MSDN/TechNet http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Profile/rubsay

You can't search http://answers.microsoft.com by username and doing a internet search brings back virtually no content for this person so it's hard to determine how they got MCC.

There's definitely something astray with the award as too many people who appear to contribute very little to the online community are getting MCC however those that appear to spend all their spare time contributing don't get awarded.

Unfortunately a lot of damage has been done to the MCC brand (by taking it offline for so long without warning and for awarding people who clearly shouldn't be awarded) and now it's not being taken seriously which is a shame as there needed to be some type of ward other than MVP.

  • She does no longer show MCC near her name, so perhaps she somehow got the award in the previous cycle or it was a mistake.

I don't see MCC near wBob name which is surprising. Few more people didn't show it last time I checked.

Got 'Unexpected error' now trying to post this answer.
