Wish could turn off Verify when backing up to DVD RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Provided the restore operation is robust enough to continue past a disk read error, it would sure speed up a large backup if could optionally turn off verify.

  • Thanks for the feedback. Encountering a disk read error and skipping past it may be something that the restore can do, but verifying the backup does more to insure that this won't actually happen. In my opinion, there's nothing worse than counting on your backups to have worked, only to find that the backup disc was useless. The time for verification is a small price to pay to help reduce this possibility, in my opinion.

  • Of the multi 100s of thousands of files that contained in my full backups, the chance that one of more that I would need to restore, & wouldn't be able to because of a DVD write error, is pretty minimal (especially given I've likely got a copy of that file on a previous backup).
Doubling the time it takes to do a large backup because every DVD write has to be verified is a large price to pay.
