    Windows 7 Pro - We continue to receive a message that windows is not genuine. I have ran SLIU – it reports that windows is activated successfully. I have ran SLMGR using various options  - it reports that Win7 Pro “Product activated successfully”, “Status = Licensed” and “This machine is permanently activated”.

    That obviously didn't work - so we go to plan B.

    Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

    NET STOP CRYPTSVC
    REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
    NET START CRYPTSVC

    once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

    Note that this may delete your Update History - but all updates will remain installed, and can be viewed in the Installed Updates listing.

    This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -  

    Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers

    try downloading and installing them from here - http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=404F9&fileId=3379402949&osCode=W764&productCode=optiplex-7010&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SA

    Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.   

    If you get a 'not applicable' message, try the other SATA drivers available on this page - pick the one that applies to your system

    Noel,

    That did the trick. After following the steps from your last post and running a new MGADiag report, I could see that the “File Mismatch” and “Tampered File” were no-longer being reported.  I have not seen the “Windows is not genuine” popup since I rebooted the system. I selected just one item from the available Windows Updates and it installed without error!

    I brought up the Windows Update because when the “Windows is not genuine” issue began, Windows Updates began to fail. It seemed logical that Windows would block Windows Updates until Windows is satisfied that this version is genuine. Anyway, as mentioned earlier, I have not seen the “Windows is not genuine” popup since the CATROOT2 was rebuilt. Below is the latest MGADiag report.

    The new MGADiag looks fine - you may want to check it by validating using Internet Explorer, at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate - which should pass - which will clear any remaining hidden failures.

    WU should still work, even with a non-genuine install. It's just that with a WGA failure, the updates are limited to those directly related to Security.

    The failure you got was a slightly different one, and actually blocks WU as well. The Catroot2 folder is one which stores the security data for WU as well as the rest of the system, and when it's borked as it was here, both WU and WGA will complain mightily. In some cases, simply rebuilding the folder is enough for both WGA and WU - in others it needs more intensive care.

    Make sure that you post a link to this thread in your post to either Answers/Community, or SevenForums, so that people know what's already been tried/fixed and can attempt to move on, rather than retracing old ground.
