Office 2007 Activation Problem. Recent installation will not activate. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello
I recently purchased Office Professional Plus 2007 from Software4Students. It seemed to install OK, then after a week I kept getting a message saying it needed to be activated. When I tried the activation process in both Outlook and Word, nothing happened. I did not get the activation wizard or a message saying already activated. I have run the Genuine Advantage Tool - results below

  • Hello dapperp,

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

As you noted, your installation of Office Professional Plus 2007 is not yet activated, and until it is activated, its status vis-a-vis Office Genuine Advantage cannot be determined.

You may find assistance in the details of this MS KB article:  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/919895  If the article does not help, please visit the Office Solution Center http://support.microsoft.com/ph/8753#tab0 and click on the links ("Contact a support professional etc etc") to request product activation support from Product Support Services.

There is something strange about your installation of Office Professional Plus 2007.  Your product is reporting with a Pid Type of 1 (<Pid>89446-953-8533261-65526</Pid><PidType>1</PidType>), meaning that it is reporting as a Retail licensed product.  However, to my knowledge, Office Professional Plus 2007 is sold by Microsoft only as a Volume Licensing product, which would report with a Pid Type of 14.  This may be a normal state of affairs for software distribution thru the website you mentioned, but then again it may not be normal.  I have no way of knowing.

If your contact with Product Support Services indicates that there is something amiss with the genuineness of this software, I would encourage you to return it for a full refund if possible.  If you are a college/university level student, you would be able to take advantage of this program directly from Microsoft:  http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-uk/default.aspx

Good luck and please keep us updated on your situation.

  • Hello Dan

Thanks very much. I am in touch with Microsoft Support and I have passed the bit of your reply about the Pid Type to them. Hope this is OK by you
