After re-booting, Windows Installer and HP Essentials 3.5 icons will not be removed from desktop except with Windows Task Manager

  I have a AMD Athlon 64 processor, 3000+ 2.6 mB, 1.43 GB, using Windows XP Home (2002)  700 total physical memory.  When I boot up, the Windows Installer icon will just sit on the desktop and also same with HP essential 3.5, which I remove with Windows Task Manager.  Nothing else works until these two items are removed.  I have an HP 4210, 3 in 1 photosmart which uses the HP Essential 3.5 program.  I have looked everywhere for some help.  Now as i type this, maybe the answer will come from HP.
