MS Money Sunset will not open Password issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • MS Money Sunset has been having problems ever since upgrading to Windows 10.  Now MS Money is saying my password which has remained the same for ten years is incorrect.  I tried the password reset feature and successfully changed my password to the default (ten year old) one and then tried MS Money again and received the same message Password Incorrect.

    Help It's tax time and I need to open my file.

  • Disconnect from the Internet.  Pull your ethernet cable or turn off
    your modem -- whatever it takes.  Start Money, click below the
    password field to select "I want to sign in to Money directly,
    without access to all online services." then click Next.

    If you get into your file,
    remove your LiveID.   Since you  changed your LiveID, use the credentials that were in
    effect at the time that you saved that Money file -- not your changed version.  To remove the
    Live ID, go to File-PasswordManager, and choose to remove your
    LiveID.  To remove or add a conventional password, also see
    File->PasswordManager.

    The password is case-sensitive.  If you are not sure of your
    credentials, write down what you remember.  Consider permutations.
    Check your notes.  You will not get into the file without those
    credentials in effect when the file was saved.

    It is possible that your file is corrupted. In that case, you can try restoring your newest or second newest backup. If you use the remembered location, it would overwrite the newest *.mny file. One way to avoid that is to rename that file before you attempt to restore. You would still need the credentials that were in effect when the backup was made.
