Live Mesh Desktop folder showing exactly 1000 files only RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Windows XP folder of about 1080 files on my own desktop which was syncronised after another full-permissions user topped it up with 960 files via the Live Desktop folder. It has definitely added all 960 files into my own desktop folder to make it up to the 1080 in total, but the Live Mesh Desktop folder is showing exactly 1000 files only, i.e only the first 1000 alphabetically whether I re-sort by the other headings (Modified Time, Size, etc) or whether I view as icons or as details. If there were really only those 1000 files in the Live Desktop folder it would have synchronised my own desktop folder to remove all but the 1000. I also have a laptop (again Windows XP) version of the folder which also has all 1080 files and shows only 1000 in the Live Desktop version. Just to say that these files are only occuplying 29 Mb so I am nowhere near the 5Gb size limit. I can't believe there aren't other users who have this number of files in a Desktop folder so has anyone else encountered this?

  • I have a vague recollection that someone else encountered something similar, but I can't locate the thread at this point.

I don't know that you'll get a reply to the submission, but a bug report would be about the best I can suggest.
If you move 100 files out of the folder on the PC from that folder, what happens to the folder on the Live Desktop? Do we see all 980 remaining files? If so, add files back to see if the 1,000 files is a hard limit in the list that you see - it shouldn't be, based on the 100,000 object limit for a Live Mesh folder - http://blogs.msdn.com/livemesh/archive/2008/08/13/the-potential-of-live-mesh-is-limitless.aspx

How to Submit Bugs and Live Mesh Logs

Note that you may not receive a response to the bug report, though. It will be transferred to the internal system to be assigned to the appropriate development group.

    I've heard nothing on this.

And, unfortunately, I doubt that it will be addressed as the problem really ramped up as the back end went through changes in prep for Wave 4 which has not yet been released to beta.

When Wave 4 of Windows Live is released, the existing Live Mesh infrastructure will likely be retired, though nothing has been announced yet, but we are expecting to see it released to beta today.
