Unicode (chinese) characters are displayed as squares in picklists on the CRM 4.0 forms RRS feed

  • Question

  • The issue is that the chinese characters can be added to the picklist options in the customization and they are presented correct here.

When you open the picklist on the form however the characters are just displayed as small squares.

In list views they are displayed correct and as choises in advanced find they are also displayed correctly.

The CRM 4.0 server is installed with the default english base language and has no CRM language packs installed.

It seems to me to be a bug in either IE 7.0 or MS CRM 4.0. Does anyone have any experience with this issue or a suggestion to a solution?

  • The solution to my problem turns out to be to go to

Control Panel --> Regional and Language Options --> Language tab

and check the "Install files for East Asian Languages", accept in the appearing dialog and reboot the pc.

Changing language options in the browser had no effect and installing various language packs are not an option when the setup of the CRM forms etc has to be kept in english and I do doubt that it would have solved the problem anyway.

    Thanks for the replies anyway

  • any issues with other non-English charaters?  is there a reason not to add the language pack?
