Crashing, requesting validation key - please help

Question
-
My computer has been crashing regularly for several months. On the odd occasion, it requests a validation code and advises me that I do not have a genuine copy of windows. Due to a house move a year ago, I was unable to find find the original disk with the key code until a few days ago. It had been in my husbands office at work. However, I have not had the chance to insert the code as it not been requested. I am unsure how I can do this until I see the message again. It has only requested the code approx 5 times during the last few weeks.
This computer was bought approximately 18 months ago from PCWorld and it IS a genuine copy. I am baffled why this is happening. It is Windows XP professional, Dell Dimension 8300.
My questions are:
How do I add my genuine/original code, without having to wait for the request after the computer has crashed?
Can I find out if anyone has stolen my key-code?
Here is the pasted info:

Hey Tania,
Thank you for posting back and letting me know what is happening. You mentioned buying a CD key finder. What key are you trying to locate the Windows OS or Office? There is nothing you can see directly to get your product key from the machine. There are however, 3rd party applications available that would be able to do this. We are unable to recommend any of them since it would be against our policy. A well phrased search in your favorite search engine should provide you the applet you are looking for.
Please use the following guidance for removing MS Office Pro 2003. Attached below is a Knowledge Base (KB) article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301. This will allow you to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and explain detailed information. Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and uninstall all Microsoft Office programs 2003 and below (NOT 2007 OFFICE) on your computer. Hopefully this will completly remove the blocked Volume licensing key.
AS I previously mentioned it may be in your best interest for a fresh installation of the operating system because you don't know if there may be any fall out from the blocked VLK.
Thank you,
Stephen Holm, MS

Good Morning Tania H,
Everything appears to be in order with the installation of Windows Professional installation analyzing the MGA Diagnostic results. There is one problem I have seen and it appears Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 has a blocked product key. This may or may not have an effect on your system crashing. Right now you can't be sure about MS OFfice 2003 because it is non-genuine. Research has shown about half of the non-genuine software copies may be infested with root kits, sypware, Trojans, and who knows what else but of course this depends on where the software originated. Curious where did you purchase MS Office? Please contact them and let them know the software has a blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) and you need a genuine copy or monies returned.
Next can you please let us know of any error codes or messages received that indicates you are having WGA problems. This will help us to resolve your situation. The best option @ this point would be to completly resintall your operating system. Please don't install Office again as this could be the root of some problems.
Thank you,
Stephen Holm, MS

Hi Stephen
Thanks for your comments. I tried to uninstall Microsoft Office Pro 2003, but half way through, an error message came up from microsoft and it said that there was a problem, followed by "unexpected termination".
The problem is getting worse than ever and it has taken me an hour to get online.
I bought a CD key finder CD which arrived today. Unfortunately, it requires that I download microsoft network 2.0, which it doesn't appear to be able to carry out either. I already have microsoft network 1.0, which I am also unable to uninstall. It is extremely frustrating.
I shall have to save all my files and wipe the computer. Grrrr.
Will let you know what happens. Tania.
