Hi All,
We'll have a fix for this in our upcoming May release. We'll provide a swith in the URL that will allow a thread to invalidate from cache.
Thanks.

We ought to have a sticky post which allows people to post the latest set of (moving) thread(s) that are stuck in no-mans land.
At least we can't blame it on the latest set of fixes. This has been a steady function for quite a number of releases. Here's another one: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointworkflow/thread/14c1cb2e-52a0-42fb-89a6-77c9769c248b- Edited by Mike Walsh FIN Tuesday, April 28, 2009 10:34 AM

This is getting boring and what happens after these are resolved is possibly worse. They are left (now unlocked) where they were and thus there are threads where I have said in a reply that I am moving a thread to X and where the thread is still where I said I was moving it from.

Hi Mike,
Verified. These 2 URL's are still in Locked state:

I'll file a bug on this.
Thanks.

> I'll file a bug on this.Thanks. I don't think I am doing anything unusual (except move a lot of posts) but I seem to be getting two or three locked threads (after attempted Moves) daily.I.e. I suspect there are more than two out there now because I won't have added all of the locked threads to this thread (because I wait until they have been locked for several hours and then I'm often not sure if I've already reported them or not :) )P.S. Side-Note: There are a lot of off-topic posts here which have replies from one of three or four of us saying that they are off-topic. It would be very useful if you could delete these threads or move them to the Off-topic forum (best) because the mere fact that they are listed encourages other people to post equally off-topic posts here. None of the 3-4 of us who reply to them have Moderator rights here so WE can't move them - but you can!

Thanks Mike. We're looking into the issue and see if this is something we can fix for our upcoming May Release. Regarding the off topic posts, I'll move some of them.
Thanks.

Thanks for that. The small number is probably because other moderators like myself have noticed that a post that ought to have been moved wasn't and then moved it again (this time successfully). This would take them off your list which is only the posts which got stuck; were freed; but then left in the freed state in the original forum.I'll now make the list even shorter by moving my posts that were included in it :)

I was able to move threads from this Forum to the off topic Forum successfully. Not sure why some of those threads are still in locked stated. We're looking into the issue. My suspect it's a cache issue when the initial move action failed.
Thanks.
STO Forums Test LeadMonday, May 18, 2009 4:25 PM -
Yeah, it's a cache issue. From what I've seen, the thread stays locked for about a week, then it gives up and leaves an "Unable to move thread" notification in the OP. Then moving it again immediately succeeds without a problem.

>Then moving it again immediately succeeds without a problem.I suspect this is just law of the averages.I.e. Most original Moves work; some few don't. So when you move the few that were locked then unlocked the odds are in favour that they move OK.While I haven't yet seen such a post not move, I don't think we can say that it is 100% guaranteed just that it hasn't happened yet that such a post gets stuck again. All we can say is that a move getting stuck has nothing to do with the thread itself. It's random.

Hmm, that's a different kind of problem, that only solves the 404 errors. The cache misbehavior has many faces. Hey, you've created one too.
Hans Passant.Wednesday, May 20, 2009 12:39 AM -
Threads locked in maintenance mode and have "Thread is locked while split, move or merge is being processed." will be fixable (as Don says) in the May release by invalidating the cache (which is why it is stuck). The 404 "post move/merge" is different bug we have been looking at, but that likely won't be available until the June release. The 404 issue is not related to cache as far as I understand.
