Problem with shared folder access in WHS RRS feed

  • Question

  • When trying to open a shared folder on the WHS through XP I get the Access Denied error message.

Permissions are set to allow the logged on user Full Access to the folder in WHS console.

When setting access to the same folder with another user access is granted.

Ive tried deleting the user account on the WHS console and creating a new one but this still doesnt work.

Trying to gain access through Mac partially works, the shared folder opens but sub-folders appear empty when there actually not.

    Can anyone please help?

Tried the above but unfortunately not worked. Seems to be new user accounts that arent working.

Wondering if its something to do with me joining the WHS to my Domain Controller?

As Kariya21 already mentioned WHS can not (legally) be joined to a domain. Most likely it will also reboot every few hours to remind you (you should also be able to see this in the WHS eventlogs). Since joining WHS to domain is violating EULA I can not advise you on any workarounds. Best thing to do would be remove WHS from the domain.

  • On the client please first check if the actual logon name matches the displayed username: Start, Run, type control userpasswords2 and Hit Enter. If this is OK then:

On the Client computer go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys and see that the FOLDER AND ALL FILES in it have Full permissions for the Administrators GROUP and SYSTEM account.

     or

On the client computer: Start, Run, type rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr, hit enter. Then find the name of your WHS, highlight it and "Remove it". Logoff, then back in, and update your password one final time through the WHS client. If all goes well, it should resolve it.

While WHS can exist in a domain environment, it cannot be part of a domain.  So I would say that it could be contributing to your problem.
