whs on a virtual drive? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running alchohol 120% and want to know if I can install this on a virtual drive?  If not, what is the performance if I install this on an external hard drive attached via usb?

My main pc doesn't have enough hd space for the 80gb requirement.

As far as I know, alcohol 120% is a CD/DVD burning program (not a virtual app), so I don't see how this has anything to do with a virtual drive.  In any event, installing WHS in a VM is unsupported (although it does work).

Your hardware would need to be able to boot from an external hard drive, so unless your hardware will boot from an external USB drive, it won't work.

  • WHS Setup will not allow you to install the OS on an USB drive (even if you disconnected all internal drives). Earlier OS like Windows XP or Server 2003 needed a round of hacks to run from external drives.
