CRM 2011 and Exchange 2010 on the same hardware RRS feed

  • Question

  • One of our customer has the following Crm 2011 deployment architecture to support only 20 users. One DB server (sql 2008 with Crm SRS) and one Crm Application Server (CRM full install, adfs 2.0 and Email router). Now he wants to adopt an Exchange Server solution but he doesn't want to buy a new server. He wants to install Exchange 2010 on the same server of CRM. Despite my recomendation to not doing so he wants to proceed anyway. Is there some tecnical reasons I can spend to let him reconsider his thoughts ?
    Thanks in advance.

Besides obvious performance issues (plus patches / service packs management nightmare) having both products on the same box, you should pay attention to this aspect:

Exchange will require the default website and so does ADFS 2.0. If you try to install Exchange and ADFS 2.0 on the same website you could have potential issues and you may need the Microsoft professional support to solve them.

So my customer opted to buy a two new small servers (one per Product)

Thanks to Alan Ward for his "CRM 2011 and Exchange 2010 conflict" post in which I found some useful information.

  • Hi, can you give a link to that post, or provide your experience about the question you've raised? We also have a client, who would like to setup CRM on Exchange server.
