    Is there any negative affect of installing IE 8 on client pc's? What about upgrading to it on Windows Home Server itself?  Thanks

    unless you use incompatible websites, there should be no problems to install IE8 on the clients.
    There is currently no reason to install it on Windows Home Server, since its desktop use is not supported. So it should be enough to wait, until IE 8 will be deployed via Windows Update to your server.
