What is the limit on RAM for WHS 2011 64-bit RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a new WHS 2011 64-bit installation based on an MSI 790FX-GD70 motherboard that works great with 4-GB RAM, but boots to the 'Windows Error Recovery" screen when I increase the RAM to 8-GB.  The memory is all good, works when swapped, and the BIOS sees 8-GB RAM.  Is there some RAM limit in WHS 2011 64-bit that I am unaware of?  Has anyone had a similar experience or does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks - Eric

  • No fundamental reason why you are experiencing this -  8GB is the limit for WHS2011. What are you doing that requires more than 4GB, which seems to be the "sweet spot"?

  • I got a deal on some good memory.  By the way, I am fairly sure the machine is not the problem, as it will boot and run windows 7 and I was running Vail RC2 64-bit with 8GB previously.  I am puzzled....
