Connection to Live Desktop RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello from Germany.

    i don´t have connection to the live desktop again (since saturday I think) . I always get the info "Can´t connect to live desktop - try refreshing the page" - it doesn´t work. Also deleting cookies and temporary internet files and restarting Iexplorer doesn´t work. Firewall settings are ok. Mesh is connected to my device. Space of my live desktop is used to 100 % - could this be the problem somehow? Does someone have an idea?

    Best regards

  • I don't think that the 100% full is the reason for a connection problem. Others were reporting problems yesterday from various parts of the world, so I suspect that you are seeing a residual of that issue. Please let us know if the problem clears. There may be a routing issue or a server issue. Unfortunately, there's no status page to see if there are any known issues.

  • You're welcome. :-)
    I emailed my contact on the Live Mesh team and he's checking into it since, as I noted, there are a number of posts from people having problems with this. If we learn anything, I'll post an update.

  • No news at all. Let me poke again. You might want to submit a bug report and then post a link back here so that my contact can reach out to you directly if needed.
    See here -

    How to Submit Bugs and Live Mesh Logs

    One other suggestion - try deleting temporary Internet Files and cookies, and verify the PC data and time, then try again.

  • Hello, I want to report that Live Mesh Desktop ist still not connectable. For a few weeks now there always appears "Live Mesh could not connect - try refreshing the page" Two days ago I upgraded to Windows 7 and hoped that it will work with it but it doesn´t. Do you still not have any information about this bug ( if it IS a bug)? Remote Desktop works great...I tried everything....

  • Strange - no I haven't heard anything about it and I'm sorry to read that you are still unable to access the Live Desktop.
    Can you try accessing it with a different web browser, perhaps?

  • Today I noticed that while the Live Mesh software seems to upload new or modified files, they don't download on my other computers. Trying to access them from the web interface (Live Desktop i think it's called), I get a security error in Firefox, and a Page Cannot be Displayed error in Internet Explorer 8. :(

  • I have encountered the same issue. The web interface appears to be down. The security error occurs no matter what browser is used. It would be nice if MS put out some information about this issue. So as of today 10/27 Live Mesh is not working. Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

    Moodler and jcats, I can report that Live Mesh and the Live Desktop are up and running for me. Of course, that does not help you or others that cannot access the Live Desktop. I am located in the US, in NJ and am currently connected via an AT&T cell connection. I can also access the Live Desktop via my office Internet connection, through a proxy server.

    We know that Felix is in Germany and has the problem for a while. And there was a report some weeks back from someone in Sweden who was unable to access the Live Desktop, but that cleared after a few days. Where are both of you located? What is the security error you get in Firefox?

  • Hi Stephen Boots,

    I am located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

    I tried accessing Live Desktop with Google Chrome (which is usually what I use), and I also get the same error. The error message is:

    422WebException Status: TrustFailure, Message: The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.

    I tried accessing/downloading from Live Desktop both new files, as well as files that have been uploaded 1 year ago. Both give me the same error. I get the error both when I double-click on a file, or try right-clicking it and left-clicking Save As...

    I haven't checked whether Live Mesh is uploading properly on my other computer (a desktop which uses an old version of Live Mesh because the updater keeps failing... submitted a log, never heard back from you guys), but it uploads fine from my laptop which is running the latest version 0.9.4014.7

    I have a little over 1 gigabyte of data uploaded to my Live Mesh. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Edit: I should add that I haven't tried downloading anything from Live Desktop since Spring or Summer 2009. Also, during Summer 2009, files would sync/download properly on both of my computers, including the one with the outdated Live Mesh software.

    Both are running Windows XP. Desktop Home, laptop Professional 32-bit.

  • Are you getting the error when trying to log into the Live Desktop or when you have already logged in and you are trying to upload or download a file?
    If it is the former, I guess that there are two things I would suggest checking since the error appears to be with the SSL handshake.
    1. Check the PC date and time - all values, carefully.
    2. Go to Windows Update and check for updates, installing all critical and important updates, especially any that refer to updating the root certificates on the machine.

    For the failing updater, uninstall and reinstall Live Mesh on that machine. It is probably not working properly if it is running the old version of the client.

  • Hmm... this is weird.

    Before I was trying to use www.livemesh.com to access Live Desktop (and that's where I got those errors). Then I tried www.mesh.com and voila! Live Desktop works. So then I try to go back to www.livemesh.com to see if I get the error, but now www.livemesh.com works (but it redirects to www.mesh.com so now I don't remember if it did that originally)...

    So not sure if you guys did something? But it works! :)

    Lesson of the story: use www.mesh.com

    With regard to your reply Stephen, I was/I still manually log-in to the website, even though I'm signed in on the Live Mesh software. My Windows time and date settings all look to be correct, and I have all critical updates etc.   I will try doing a manual update to see if there's any new root certificates to install on my laptop.

    I'll have to tinker with the desktop Live Mesh software another time.
    Thank you for your assistance!

  • UPDATE:

    Ah, things are not so simple as they seem.

    1. I tried doing a Microsoft Update via Internet Explorer 8, but now the blasted thing gives me an error and I don't have time to fix all this broken software. I'm pretty sure root certificates are all up to date, but I know all critical updates are 100% so no worries there.

    2. I cleared cookies/cache/offline data etc. in Firefox, quit, then launched Firefox. I went to www.livemesh.com (which redirected to www.mesh.com) and logged-in. Tried downloading an old file I haven't tested these past few days (uploaded in December 2008) and BAM! ERROR!

    This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

    <Error>
    <Title>ErrorResource</Title>
    <Code>422</Code>

    <Message>
    WebException Status: TrustFailure, Message: The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.
    </Message>
    </Error>

    So then I try downloading a file that I already successfully downloaded a few minutes ago. It works... so now I go back to the December 2008 file, and that works too....... What the heck?!?

    So I've decided that the problem is on your end and I'm going to go back to work on my own things because I have no time for this. In the next few days I will attempt to connect to Live Desktop on a computer at work and let you know how things go.

    Good luck problem-solving!

  • The problem is either with your account - which could be a server side issue, or with your PC. Sorry that you're having such troubels with it.
    On the other hand, since WU is failing, I'm pretty certain that the problem is at your end.
    I just read an interesting post in a newsgroup this morning that might be worth trying:

    In Internet Explorer, under Tools--> Internet Options-->Advanced Tab Scroll down to the Security section and UNCHECK "Check for server certificate revocation"

    Then restart IE.

    Finally, the site for the Live Desktop is www.mesh.com not the livemesh.com URL you are starting with.

  • "Check for server certificate revocation" was already unchecked.

    Went to Live Desktop via www.mesh.com and it works right now for older and newer files. I will attempt to connect to Live Desktop via mesh.com on a computer at work tomorrow with Firefox and IE8 to see if it works, and will try a different PC at home as well. I'm not sure why I went to www.livemesh.com after I tried Microsoft Update... perhaps I was tired.

    I'll let you know the results. Hopefully the solution is to just use www.mesh.com

    Thanks Steve

  • My apologies for not following up. Life can be hectic!

    Using only www.mesh.com, from work and home it seems to be fine 99% of the time, although I don't use it all that often. I did remember on one occasion that I got the same error when trying to download a file, but going back and trying again worked.

    Thanks again!
