Backing up to another drive on my home network RRS feed

  • I have been backing up my data from my laptop to another internal drive on my desktop computer that is on a home network.  Out of the blue it stopped working.  I tried to start the backup manually and right after it checks for changes in the laptops hard drive a popup window comes on requesting that I put in a username and password to gain access to the destination drive.  I don't remember restricting the destination drive.  And I have verified that the destination drive is set up for sharing.  I need some help.

  • What's OS on the PC that has the Share? Is that PC also running OneCare? Can you access the Share via Windows Explorer from the PC that you're backing up from?

    You may simply need to reset the permissions or delete and recreate the Share. Make sure, if Vista, that Everyone is listed with Full Control for the Share, or in XP, that network users are allowed to change files.
