  • Hi,

I installed and successfully activated windows 7 professional SP1 x64 obtained from the MSDNAA through my university yesterday.  However, I am now receiving errors when trying to run automatic updates and my system information page says that the windows activation status and product ID are not available.  I ran the MGAdiag program and got the following error report:

I have installed the rapid storage drivers, rebooted twice, and performed a CHKDSK.  The log from the CHKDSK reports no errors.  Here is the latest MGADiag report.

    Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0):

    -----------------------------------------

    Windows Validation Data-->

    Validation Code: 0x8004FE21

Cached Online Validation Code: N/A, hr = 0xc0000022

I also tried using the install cd to do a repair of windows 7.  The install process got to the end but then I received an error saying that there was an issue with some of the files and it rolled back the entire process.

    No significant change, I’m afraid
    :(

I don’t think that there’s anything we can do in this forum for you – this set of errors has been impossible for us to pin down to a cause.

Since this is a new install, the best thing would be to start again from scratch, and see if you can work out what may be causing the problem (if it ever re-appears).

If you want to avoid doing that, then see if WGA support can assist – but from what I hear, their usual response is a reinstall.
WGA Support can be found here-

    North America:

    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4

    Outside North America:
    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0

Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem - it would be useful for future reference!

Any help regarding the matter would be greatly appreciated.

The set of file mismatches above are typical of one of two causes:-
    1) a restore from an image backup of the system
    2) a failed driver update
The only one for which we currently have a solution is the second.....
Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -
    - you’ll need the set for the x64 (64-bit) platform on Win7
Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.
    Good Luck!

Note also that you may need to run a CHKDSK :C /R, since another error indicates that there may be problems with the HD or file system.

I also tried using the install cd to do a repair of windows 7.  The install process got to the end but then I received an error saying that there was an issue with some of the files and it rolled back the entire process.

I have installed the rapid storage drivers, rebooted twice, and performed a CHKDSK.  The log from the CHKDSK reports no errors.  Here is the latest MGADiag report.

    No significant change, I’m afraid
    :(

I don’t think that there’s anything we can do in this forum for you – this set of errors has been impossible for us to pin down to a cause.

Since this is a new install, the best thing would be to start again from scratch, and see if you can work out what may be causing the problem (if it ever re-appears).

If you want to avoid doing that, then see if WGA support can assist – but from what I hear, their usual response is a reinstall.
WGA Support can be found here-

    North America:

    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4

    Outside North America:
    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0

Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem - it would be useful for future reference!
