Windows Vista Home Basic Product Key RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to log in for help from Microsoft on another issue. When I do this it asks if I want microsoft to detect my product key. I select this choice. The message says it cannot detect my product key. When I enter the actual product key (determined from my system tab under the control panel) it still doesn't recognize the key. What do I do?

MS usually asks not for the Key, but for the Product ID - which can be found on the System Properties page.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
