Build 1776 and WOL setting RRS feed

  • Question

I have my WHS scheduled off during a specific time of the day. Unfortunately when I power on a PC or when a PC comes out of sleep mode, the WHS boots up. I have no backups scheduled and have looked for any settings that may cause this. This has only occurred since I installed PP1 build 1776. Any ideas where I may look for the culprit ?

  • Windows Home Server doesn't use (and isn't designed to use) Wake On LAN. It's intended to be running 24x7. If you've configured WOL on your server, that's the culprit. The easiest thing to do is just turn WOL off. You can attempt to configure your server to only wake for "magic packets" instead of waking on any network traffic. Support for this is fairly common, but not universal.

But I would recommend turning off WOL.
